In her most ambitious work to date, Caroline Henry presents "Shakti Rising", a transformative portal into the raw, creative power of Goddess Durga that resides within. Here, the Goddess Durga emerges from a tapestry of reclaimed history and potent symbolism. A collage of painted crimson roses, burgundy blooms, and the grounding energy of smokey quartz points, anchor her fierce presence. Antique and thrifted objects, vintage textiles, sequins, embroidery, and found materials each with a past life, are layered into the collage around her.
This is a vision of sacred alchemy. To the right of Durga is an antique knife dripping with red sequin droplets, made from the fabric of a thrifted 90's dress. This knife doesn't speak of violence, but of the courageous act of cutting away what no longer serves us. The antique brass dragon, a timeless guardian beneath her tiger, symbolizes the primal energy she has mastered and now directs. In her left hand, a bowl of black tourmaline and smokey quartz arm her with energetic protection.
Every material is a conscious choice echoing the theme of reclaimed power. Her sari, woven from a red belly dancing skirt, vibrates with unleashed creative energy. A sculpted red rose blooming from her womb symbolizes potent creation and the beauty that emerges when working with the root chakra energy center.
